How to Choose the Right Evening Shoe

Finding the perfect evening shoes is a great experience. With so many options this can be a difficult challenge. There are a few things to keep in mind while you are looking. The event you will be attending, what you will be wearing, who will be accompanying you, what kind of activities will you be doing, and what reaction you want from the people you will be seeing.

The Big Event (heels or flats):

If the event is casual house party like a BBQ, shower, or poker party you can wear just about any shoe because you will most likely be taking them off at the door. Be daring wear something that will catch people's eyes when you get there, but if you do manage to be fashionably late. To these types of events flat or heels are okay.

If the event is a sit down affair like; a symphony, school play, awards dinner, church get together, a date, or business dinner you are also free to experiment. Depending on how much walking or standing you will be doing you can even take those uncomfortable high heels you haven't been able to break in. To these types of events heels are preferred.

If the event is something with a lot of activity like; a night of dancing, concert, rally, or a fun date like miniature golf, or anyplace you will be doing a lot of walking or standing flats would be preferred but it really depends upon your comfort level in the shoes. Anything comfortable is advisable.

Clothes Do Not Have the Last word (style of shoe and colors or prints):

Nowadays clothes only make up part of the outfit. Shoes have a lot of say in the reaction you will get from the people you see, as long as the outfit does not overshadow the shoes. Now that you have decided if you will wear heels or flat now can start to decide the color and or pattern.

Mix and Match:

Try a print outfit with a solid color shoe. With prints it is good to have the shoe color match something in the outfit. If you are wearing solid colors jazz up your ordinary outfit with prints, sequined, or any type if unique styled shoe. Another stylish look is black dress with solid red or yellow shoes. Try a white outfit with solid yellow, blue or even pink shoes. In today's fashion world the shoe style does not necessarily have to match the outfit, and in most cases wearing something that doesn't match will make people take notice.

Classic:

If you are not into the mix and match look just yet and you like the classic style that is timeless and always fashionable try matching heels or boots with skirts, or flats or heels with pants. If you are ready to add a tiny bit of flair to your shoes look for something with buckles or buttons to grab a little attention. These looks are easy, sophisticated, stylish, and always ready to wear.

Who is your date: (height)

It is important to be mindful of who you will be spending time with during the evening. If you are above average height wearing heels next to someone who is average height may make you and your date feel uncomfortable. Pick something that does not allow you to dominate the other person in height. Likewise if you are vertically challenged and you are spending the evening with someone taller, heels that add a few inches in height will make you and your date feel more comfortable. You don't need to change who you are for someone but finding a balance in the area of height will make you feel more at ease with that person.

Activities: (comfort)

Some people are perfectly comfortable wearing heels on a motorcycle or walking on rocks in heels, other people are not comfortable in heels at all and find them difficult to walk in let alone dance. Look at the activities that will most likely happen during the evening and find a shoe height that is comfortable for you. If you are comfortable in what you are wearing and how you look the world will see a confident and strong person whatever their height.

Reactions: (comfort level)

Some people like wearing flashy shoes to get a reaction out of people that are seeing them. There is nothing wrong with wanting attention for your shoes you spent a lot of money on those foot covers. If you like reaction from shows pick flashy colors and jazzy patterns. If you like moderate attention from your shoes a peek a boo toe or a simple bow, button, or buckle can do the trick. If you don't like your feet and want to detract attention from them then you will most likely want to go with simple solid color and nothing else on the shoe.

Now you are armed with all the information needed to find the right evening shoe, go ahead and start shopping. But remember a good shoe deal is better than paying full price. Have the shoe you want in mind and start by shopping on line, next go to the store and try it on, and finally walk around the store for about five minutes to make sure you are happy with how the shoe feels. When you get to the evening out you are sure to shine in your own special and unique way. Have a happy shoe day!

Great article. Well done.

The one thing I would recommend against is high heels. You want to see the damage they do. Unless you spend the entire time sitting down - aviod heels.
